Yep, I've been so busy that the weekend thread didn't happen.

However, I've taken time out and am sitting in the wonderful Treehouse deskspace/creche facility to find some free events and write a half term post!

So what's on where?

On Monday, from 1pm to 4pm, celebrate the Chinese New Year with story telling and crafts!
West Norwood Library, 14 - 16 Knights Hill, SE27 0HY
On Monday, they are also celebrating the Chinese New Year with an arts and crafts session.
Cuming Museum, Old Walworth Town Hall 151 Walworth Road SE17 1RY
On Tuesday 19th February, have a go at crafting with clay from 2:30 to
4pm.
On Thursday 21st February
between 2:30pm and 4, enjoy story telling with Olivia Armstrong.

The Imagine Children's festival is on til the 24th of February. Here's a couple of things free fun things I spotted!
Bop along to a bicycle powered children’s disco on the 18th
February at the Clore Ballroom from 11.30am.
On the 20th February, check out the Big Bingo Show with
Timberlina and Hey Baylen – a riotous show with themed bingo rounds and
impromptu dance routines. Held in the Clore Ballroom, it is on at 12pm, 1:30pm
and 3pm.
Tate Modern, Bankside, SE1 9TG
On Thursday and Friday, visit the Open Studio and play around with different art materials and ideas. Open from 11am to 3pm.
National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 5DN
Sunday and Monday is the Imaginary Worlds Family Festival with loads to do for all ages!
Pram Tour at 10:20am from Room 4 on both days.
Stay and Play 10:30am to 5:30pm in the Learning Centre on both days
Chill and Watch - film shorts in the Creative Space and Sunley Room Cinema - 10:30am to 5:30pm.
Vauxhall City Farm
Pop in on Friday from 11am to 4pm, for a chance to learn about animal feeding and handling and have a go at crafts!

Lambeth - What's on for the family - January 19th-20th 2013
It's the weekend! Hooray! Time for some family fun. Except it's possible the snow is going to change what we can do this weekend. Anyway lets see what's on!
Lambeth is rather quiet this weekend. Winter seems to lack one-off events in the area. If you don't fancy traveling too far, then take a visit to the library - get some books and films out and settle down at home as the weather gets cold.
Otherwise let's take a bus ride to get a bit of south London culture and head on the P4 to the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill. They have two different family sessions on today - one which allows you to handle objects (free) and another which is about having a go at art (£3 a child).
Or head in the opposite direction to Bankside to visit the Tate Modern. Seek out the Clore Learning Centre where they have an open studio so the children can explore and create. It's open from 11am to 4pm.
To get to the Tate Modern on bus, the 45 which passes through Brixton stops at Blackfriars Bridge Road. Alternatively, there is always the tube to Southwark.
The Victoria and Albert Museum has a drop in design event about creating costumes. This is on all day in the lunch room.
The museum is located in South Kensington. The number 345 bus will take you there; alternatively take the train or tube to Victoria and catch the District Line.

Under fives have the Magic Carpet Storytelling at 10:30am and 11:30 am; and five to eleven year old children have a hands-on art workshop called postcards from Arcadia running at 11am to 12:20pm and 2am to 3:20pm.

Head down to the British Museum for a free medieval animation workshop for kids age 7 +. There are two sessions - one starts at 11m and one at 2pm.
The British Museum is located at Great Russell Street, WC1B 3DG. Hop on the 59 bus to get there.
If the snow does arrive, then Brockwell Park is a good place for a bit of sleighing. However it gets very busy. If you can get out of the house, check out Spit-spot blog for some ideas of things to do.

Ten things to do during the Christmas holidays 2012
Well, I'm sure the kids are still playing with their new toys (and packaging) but if they are getting restless, here are a few suggestions:
1. Take a walk along the River Thames! The weather isn't as cold as it has been - Start at Lambeth Bridge (bus 3 will take you there) and finish at Blackfriars Bridge. (Bus 45 will take you home)
2. Get a little bit cultured! Visit the British Museum which is located at Great Russell Street, WC1B 3DG. The number 59 bus will take you there. For those kids over 7, there is a chance to make your own secret code. For those with buggy babies or older children, take a free tour.
3. Have a swim at one of Lambeth's pools. Visit the Brixton Rec or Clapham Leisure Centre.
4. Now is the time to see the Christmas lights! See them before the 5th of January!
5. Hop on the 118 bus through Streatham and Mitcham to visit Morden Park Hall! Free guided history tours at the weekend.
6. View some art! Head out to the Tate Modern! Catch the 59 or 45 bus.
7. Learn a bit of local history with a trip to the Museum of London. Visit Mr Scrooge and tell him of your Christmas complains. To get there catch 133 to Liverpool Street and walk there or catch the underground to Barbican.
8. The animals need to be fed even over the Christmas holiday! So go take a gander at the creatures of Vauxhall City Farm. To get to Vauxhall, catch the 88, 36 , 2 or 196 bus.
9. Jump around at Soft Play! There's lots of choice- Bertie and Boo Adventure Island in Balham, Brixton Recreation Centre's massive structure and Peckham Pulse.
10. Hop up to the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill on the P4 bus to check out their collections including the aquarium.

Lambeth - What's on for the family - November 17th-18th 2012
We are now heading into the Christmas Season. Mid-November marks the point where we might have to actually start thinking about turkey, Christmas crackers and presents for the family. But lets put that off for the moment. So what can we do this weekend?
SATURDAY (17th November)
First up, a parents and buggy event - yes it's a free guided walk (called the CoolTan Arts' Largactyl Shuffle). Their walk is designed to encourage mental and physical wellbeing, through art, exercise, humour and history. This month''s theme is William Blake. The walk starts at 12pm at the Tate Modern and the walk leaders will be wearing high-viz vests. Contact them on the day 07985 658443 if you can't find them.
If you get up to the Tate modern earlier, you can always pop into their Under Fives Zone - a chance for the really little kids to explore art. Saturday opening for the Tate is 10am to 10pm.
To get to
the Tate Modern on bus, the 45 which passes through Brixton stops at
Blackfriars Bridge Road. Alternatively, there is always the tube to Southwark.
Whilst on my preambulations, I was handed a leaflet for the Young Socialists Autumn Fayre. Asides, from bric-a-brac, tombola and raffles, it includes the essentials for kids - a bouncy castle and face painting! The event is at Lambeth College, Brixton Centre at 56 Brixton Hill, SW2 1QS and starts at 12pm!
Buses through Brixton include P4, P5, 188, 196, 59, 159, 3, 133, 333, 45, 345, and 37. Alternatively you can catch the tube or the overground into the area.
Looking for nearly new kids items and christmas crafts? Then visit the Table Sale held at St Margaret's Church, Barcombe Avenue, SW2 between 2.30-4.30pm. Organised by local Mums to sell their great quality stuff to other local parents. Let the kids root around for some new toys at bargain prices!
Buses to Streatham Hill include 159, 133, 137, 109, 118 and 59.
Fancy a self led Saturday stroll? Then we recommend you check out the Capital Ring Walk - A route going through the greenery of London. Section 4 is a pleasant walk between Crystal Palace and Streatham. Check out the website to download a map and directions which include facts about the area.
The buses 3, 417, 249, 432 and 322 take you into the Crystal Palace area. The walk starts at Crystal Palace Train Station.
SUNDAY (18th November)
If the sun is shining, take an opportunity to learn a bit about the plants on Brockwell Park and have a bit of a forage. The Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses are running a Family Foraging Walk from 2pm at the greenhouses. There is a suggested donation of £2.50 per child. Contact Beth on 07427 685714.
Brockwell park can be reached by bus route 2, 3, 68, 37 and 196 as well as the overground at Herne Hill.
Happy to go a little further afield, then pop up to the London Eye to visit the Christmas Market which will be on from this weekend to Christmas Eve. Opening times are 10am to 10pm. This German style market has over 80 chalets selling gifts and food with two designed especially with children in mind. There will be a free choir performance at 1:30pm and 7:00pm to put you in the Christmas Spirit,
To get to the London Eye, catch the 159, 77 and 12 or take the tube to Waterloo.
And finally, want to travel even further? Than head to the Victoria and Albert (V &A) Museum. As the days get colder, this is a day out with lots to see and do and it's indoors!. The V & A offers family packs for children to help navigate and enjoy the collections, including a pack for the under-fives. Pick these up at the main entrance.
The V& A museum is located in South Kensington which can be reached by the underground or bus 345.

Lambeth - What's on for the family - October 27th-28th 2012
Earlier this week I was thinking that I didn't have much to write about; everywhere is all half term, half term and Halloween with not much cheap or free stuff earmarked for the weekend and then, ker-plunk!, it all landed down. Lots to do and see, so here goes!
Let start local and the visit the lovely Brockwell Park Greenhouses which will be participating in the Big Draw this week. So on Saturday, pop up there, taking buses 3, 37, 68, 196 or 322 to Brockwell Park, march up the hill and have a go at drawing the plants and structures. This years theme is 'In Lines' and artworks will go up along the brand new vertical fencing. This takes place between 10:30am and 12:30.pm. Donations welcome.
And later on, for the cost of £5 a child, there is play dough session including tips of how to make your own using vegetable dyes and incorporating natural materials! Booking essential. Phone 07427 685714. The session takes place between 2pm to 4pm.
If you want more of a spectacle than Brixton Bolt should be more your cup of tea. This is the chance to see who is Brixton's fastest man, woman and child! All future Olympian sprinters get to it! The first race takes place on Popes Road at 11am. The market on Station road will be supporting this little venture! Come out and watch the action! Buses through Brixton include P4, P5, 188, 196, 59, 159, 3, 133, 333, 45, 345, and 37.
If you are happy to travel further afield hop on the 133 or 35 up to London Bridge and visit the Old Operating Theatre and museum at 9a St Thomas Street, SE1. This Saturday, it's open for free. Surgical demonstrations will take place on the hour, every hour. I'm not sure this is a buggy friendly space so might be worth giving them a ring on tel: 0207 188 2679. Also worth booking your visit as I expect lots of people will be popping in to see it!
An alternative trip out of Lambeth could take you to Somerset House located on the 59 bus route. Between 2pm and 4pm in the West Wing, there will be a chance to cut and paste things. Make a scary mask or a witches hat or a wand. All welcome to join in the gluey fun!
Myatts Fields Park is located on Cormont Road( SE5 9RA). Buses 36, 185 and 436 to Camberwell New Road, Buses 3, 59, 159 and 133 along the Brixton road. It's a ten minute walk from there.
Another local Halloween event is at the Brixton Windmill in Windmill Gardens. It's another opportunity to turn the children into scary monsters with a fancy dress procession at 3pm. There will be tales of a haunted mill, pumpkin carving and spooky games. The event is £2 per child. Sounds like lots of fun and action! To get there, travel up the hill on buses 159, 109, 133, 45 and 333.
And finally pop along to the Tate Modern for a family event in the Tanks. From 11pm til 5pm, visitors of all ages are encouraged to "explore moving image through interventions, projections and the live creation of 16mm film works with moving image collective, no.w.here, artist Anna Lucas and live publishing collective CATALOG". Sounds curious! Whose going?! Local blog A baby on board has recently written a post on her visit to the Tate - check it out here!

Lambeth - What's on for the family - September 1st -2nd 2012
Another week, another weekend. Hope you all had a good bank holiday. We
popped along to the Leonard Street party and then wandered along to
Spitalfields City Farm where the baby proceeded to sleep whilst we enjoyed viewing
the animals. The joys of sharing stuff with the children!
So what’s on this weekend? Well, unlike last weekend we have some good
local bits and pieces. Southwark has its Elephant and Nun festival which celebrates community from
the Elephant and Castle through to Nunhead. We have listed a couple of events
which are fairly local to Lambeth with the usual details of bus routes.
SATURDAY 1st September
Performing at Camberwell Green on Saturday at 12:30pm and 2:30pm will be one of Barcelona's finest street clowns, Leandre. Buses 35, 45, 36 and 345 all run past the green.
Just down the road in Burgess Park, Circumloqui present Ne Ne Titere Pas, a mixture of mayhem and theatrics presented by a puppet and a musician on top of one of those three-wheeler french little vans. Press the link and watch the clip - it looks like good fun entertainment for little and big kids! Head towards Chumleigh gardens within the park. Showtimes are at 1pm and 3:30 pm. Buses to the Camberwell Road side of the park are the 35 and 45.
If you want a bit more of an outing, then attend the Peckham Rye Fete on the common from 12pm to 5pm. They have a dog show!! Borrow a pooch and enter him! They have a tea tent! Nom cake! They have Punch and Judy show and a Pimms tent! Sit the kids in front of the puppets and leisurely sip a glass of Pimms. An entertaining afternoon has been conjured up on the common so pop along. The number 37 will take you there!
If you are down that way don’t forget to check out the Cabaret Mechanical Theatre in East Dulwich off Lordship Lane. We mentioned it in an older blog post and then
visited the other week. The baby had a go at pressing some buttons and although the exhibition is
little, it was very enjoyable – definitely a family winner!
So that’s a good choice of local events happening. However for those who
like a good long bus ride adventure, up in Kings Cross (at the end of the 59 route) they are having an ice cream festival. Now as a kid I loved ice cream,
so free ice cream is always something I find exciting. This event has a petting zoo and an opportunity to milk a cow as well as the story of ice cream in London and lots of free ice cream samples. It is a bit in the middle of no-wheresville in Kings Cross so good if you are pushing a little one in a buggy or have kids who don't mind a little bit of walking.
SUNDAY 2nd September
There are more events at the Elephant and Nun festival
today.
The
Burgess Banquet is a music and food event held at Burgess Park from 12 to
5pm near the lakeside. It features an afternoon of live music, cooking
demonstrations and food-themed arts and crafts activities. Buses that run from
Brixton to near the park entrance are the 35 and 45.
Caramba is
a celebration of Latin music and dance held at St Mary’s Churchyard (Newington
Butts, SE11) – that’s the bit of land next to the (now being dismantled)
Elephant and Castle Leisure Centre. There is also a children’s play area there.
Events are on between 12 to 6pm. The 133, 45, 35, 155 and 415 all go past this
green space.
If none of this is quite your cup of tea, the Tate Modern has a
family day in the newly opened up tanks

and Performance,
it is described as a “participatory event inviting visitors of all ages
to explore, collaborate and create, in an experiential day of sound and
performance”. So parents who are experts at singing songs and making shapes
with the little ones should be able to take this to the next level and make it
arty. The family event is on between the hours of 11am to 5pm. I haven’t been
to the tanks yet but my daughter has….
Another thing to check out while you are there, is the Under Fives Zone on the 4th floor – an opportunity for your little ones to
clamber and explore giant shapes from a cubist still-life drawing! To get to
the Tate Modern on bus, the 45 which passes through Brixton stops at
Blackfriars Bridge Road. Alternatively, there is always the tube to Southwark.
For those who really want to stay in Lambeth or if you loved yesterday’s
Southwark dog show so much that you want MORE, there is a fun dog show from 2
til 4pm opposite the cafe on Streatham Common which is situated by the car park at the intersection of Covington Way and Streatham Common south.
Have you got a dog you want to enter or do you just want to have a look at
all the dogs. Events include cutest puppy, dandiest dog, bonniest bitch, dog
and spoon race and includes stalls and raffles. Event should come with a
warning as undoubtedly some kids will be asking their parents for a puppy! Buses to Streatham Common are 159, 50, 333, 118, 109 and 250.
